Upgrade with Confidence

The NTC qualification you earned before accreditation is still just as valuable - but here’s why upgrading helps you stay ahead of the curve.

Evolving Standards

Standards evolve - and so should your skills. Upgrading keeps you aligned with today’s best practices, boosting your clinical outcomes, professional credibility, and earning potential.

Accredited

In 2018, this qualification gained UK Level 5 accreditation through the Sports Massage Association (SMA) - now fully recognised by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Ready for Regulation

As complementary therapies move toward regulation in Ireland, only those with up-to-date qualifications will meet the minimum standard for registration. Make sure you’re future-ready.

You’ve earned your place in the profession. Now upgrade to stay at the top.
What you can expect - step by step.

Everything you need to know about upgrading your NMT qualification.

(Looking for specifics? Check the FAQs at the bottom of the page.)

Why these upgrades exist

In 2018, the National Qualification in Neuromuscular Therapy achieved UK Level 5 accreditation through the SMA (The Association for Soft Tissue Therapists). This rigorous process validated the course's quality, assessment standards, teaching excellence, and ensured it met the UK national benchmarks.

The qualification is now fully recognised by the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council), the UK's independent, government-backed register for complementary healthcare practitioners. CNHC registration means practitioners voluntarily meet high standards of professional training, conduct, and ethics.

While Ireland currently lacks a national regulatory standard for complementary therapies, NTC aligns its qualification with the UK's respected frameworks. Additionally, the CNHC is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, allowing NTC graduates to join the UK Massage Therapy Register, ensuring they meet the recognised benchmarks for safe, professional practice.

Why it matters

Upgrading your qualification offers more than a certificate. It’s a way to:

  • Enhance your skills and clinical expertise
  • Align with current professional benchmarks
  • Boost your credibility and standing in the profession
  • Future-proof your career as regulation in Ireland moves closer

Whether you want to deepen your knowledge or simply stay at the top of your game, this is your opportunity to match your qualification with today’s highest standards.

Who can upgrade?

The neuromuscular therapy upgrade options are available exclusively to graduates of the National Qualification in Neuromuscular Therapy from NTC who completed the course before 2018. These upgrade options allow eligible NTC graduates to deepen their skills and align their qualification with the latest accredited standards.

Who is not eligible?

These upgrade options are not available to students or therapists who completed a different bodywork therapy course - even if they have other qualifications or experience. They are specifically designed for those who completed the NTC Neuromuscular Therapy course before 2018 and wish to update that exact qualification.

Please note

Upgrading is entirely optional. If you don’t wish to upgrade, your original qualification remains valid and you are still fully qualified to offer treatment to the public. These upgrades are simply for those who want to advance their training, expand their clinical expertise, and gain a higher level of professional recognition and accreditation.

Thanks once again for an inspiring and enlightening weekend (although my wife’s upper trapezius muscles may disagree!). Learnt loads and I am very excited about the future of my practice. Although already incredibly busy I find treating people with pain much more interesting and fulfilling than a runner with a tweaked calf. The education you have given me is truly going to develop me as a practitioner in such a dramatic way. Thanks, John. Sad the course is coming to an end but will thoroughly recommend to others and will look to do the Masters in the future.

I have been in the Sports Massage and the treatment of occupational and sporting injuries profession for 26 years and have attended many courses to gain the necessary qualifications to give my very best to those in my care. I had read a book written by John Sharkey which was well written, extremely informative and an excellent reference source. I subsequently had the pleasure of meeting John and went on to register for a Neuromuscular Therapy programme. It is an excellent course with lectures of the highest standard delivering essential information and first-rate techniques. Applying them in clinical practice I have seen very positive outcomes in patients of all ages. I highly recommend NTC for all therapists at any stage in their career. You will not be disappointed.

In April 2012 I completed the Certificate level Neuromuscular Therapy course. Since I completed the course I have had massive success and progression. I had several private clients that I attained from advertising in the gym that I was working in, and also worked on a referral basis with physiotherapist David Gardiner owner of Physiotherapyworks in Naas Co.Kildare. In August 2012 I moved to Perth, Australia where I have enjoyed even more success. I spent 8 months working at Subiaco Sports Massage and while working in this clinic I had the privilege of treating several Olympic athletes including Sir Chris Hoy of the GB cycling team and also Western Force rugby team of the super 15s competition. I really enjoyed my time at the NTC – we really had a great group and we all keep in touch.
