NTC Mission

What is NTC?

The National Training Centre (NTC) comprises five schools and colleges:

  • The National College of Exercise and Health Studies (NCEHS) provides training in the area of health related fitness.
  • The National School of Sports Massage (NSSM) provides training in the area of orthopaedic sports massage.
  • The College of Complementary Medical Education (CCME) provides training in the areas of Neuromuscular and Physical Therapies.
  • The Pilates Institute (Ireland) provides training in the area of Pilates.
  • The Irish College of Osteopathic Medicine which provides training in the area of osteopathic medicine.

Those who want to complete a qualification with a solid, respected institution which is recognised for excellence in the various relevant industries.

NTC is Ireland’s longest established training provider in the health fitness and bodywork therapy industry with a reputation for excellence in training and education. By providing educational programmes for over 30 years NTC is an accepted authority in Ireland and we work with world authorities to bring the very latest educational experiences to our students.

At NTC we are student focused and that means our teaching methods, policies and procedures are designed to ensure you have a great educational experience with us. Using the latest and most up to date proven methods of tutor-student, student-student interaction you gain knowledge and skills in a way that is non-stressful and completely enjoyable.

All NTC tutors have completed extensive educator training not only in their particular area of speciality but also in teacher training ensuring they are equipped and competent to teach a group of mixed ability learners from various backgrounds. We know that people learn in different ways and it is important to us that our team of educators understand the various types of learners and how best to facilitate their learning and participation to ensure their experience with NTC is an enjoyable and fulfilled one.

NTC is a purpose built educational facility comprising modern, bright lecture rooms with audiovisual and multi media equipment, a fully equipped resistance training gymnasium, group fitness studio, library, fully staffed office of administration and changing rooms. Students are welcome to come and use the NTC for their own study and practice purposes (specific to their course) outside of their class times at no additional cost.

Who are NTC?

John Sharkey (founding Director) is an international educator, author and authority in the areas of Clinical Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, human movement and the manual treatment of chronic pain using European Neuromuscular Therapy. He is recognised as one of the worlds leading authorities on fascia and Biotensegrity. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT), International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine and other professional journals.
Fidelma Conlon (Director) has over 25 years experience within the health fitness industry and has completed a number of professional qualifications over the years and holds a MSc in Exercise & Nutrition Science from the University of Liverpool. Both Fidelma and John were instrumental in developing and writing the european standards for fitness and personal training qualification with the European Health Fitness Association (now Europe Active) over a number of years which led to the agreed minimum EQF standards that exist within the health fitness industry.

John Sharkey is a well-known international educator, author, and expert in various fields such as Clinical Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, human movement, and manual treatment of chronic pain using European Neuromuscular Therapy. He is a graduate of the University of Dundee, University of Liverpool, and University of Chester, completing both undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Exercise Physiology and Clinical Anatomy. He also holds a post-graduate certificate in education.

John is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Life Sciences at the University of Chester/NTC, Dublin. Additionally, he serves as the programme leader for the highly acclaimed series of Human Anatomy Dissection programmes , delivered past, present and future at King’s College London (England), The University of Dundee (Scotland), The Ohio State University (USA), Trecchi Human Academy (Italy) and The University of Witwatersrand School of Anatomical Sciences (South Africa). These courses are delivered teaching the geometry of anatomy and movement from the unique perspective of Biotensegrity-Anatomy for the 21st Century. His presentations are informative, entertaining, respectful, and insightful.

John is a proponent of the “Biotensegrity-Anatomy for the 21st century” model, which incorporates the groundbreaking work of his mentor, Dr. Stephen Levin MD. John is recognised as one of the foremost experts in the world on fascia and Biotensegrity. He specialises in teaching European Neuromuscular Therapy using living anatomy to address chronic pain conditions. Furthermore, he serves on the editorial board of professional journals such as the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT) and the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine.

Fidelma’s role as the NTC’s course coordinator involves a diverse range of tasks that require a broad range of skills and expertise. She is responsible for developing and implementing effective timetabling systems that ensure that all courses run smoothly and efficiently. Her expertise in program development allows her to design courses that are relevant, engaging, and effective, ensuring that all students receive the highest quality education.

In her capacity as a director, Fidelma is involved in shaping the overall strategy of the NTC. Her extensive knowledge of the education sector and her understanding of the latest trends and best practices help to ensure that the organisation remains at the forefront of the industry. Her leadership is critical in guiding the organisation towards its goals and in making key decisions that affect the future of the NTC.

Another significant area of responsibility for Fidelma is ensuring that the NTC’s graduates meet the highest possible standards. To this end, she works tirelessly to maintain the organisation’s accreditation and liaises closely with industry professionals to ensure that all programs remain relevant and effective. Her efforts in this area help to ensure that NTC graduates are well-prepared to succeed in their chosen fields and make a positive impact in their communities.
