The bio-organic origami of the human fascial matrix.
King’s College London provides an historical setting for this fascia-focused dissection course that explores the human form and function.
Under the guidance of Clinical Anatomist John Sharkey and his team of renowned guest speakers, participants will gain a deep understanding of fascia and Living Tensegrity, making for an enriching educational experience.
Renowned experts in anatomy and medicine, who hold formal university-accredited degrees in these fields, are invited to speak at the three-day special event. This creates an excellent blend of traditional or classical anatomy, taught as part of the medical curriculum, and a modern comparison to Biotensegrity-Anatomy for the 21st Century.
The regular team members include Clinical Anatomist John Sharkey from Ireland, along with biotensegrity interest group experts Joanne Avison, Mark Flannigan, and Karen Kirkness from the UK, with additional members to be announced.
This unique dissection course will take place over three days at the School of Medicine’s Department of Anatomy at King’s College London.
In the summer, a group of world-renowned experts from various fields such as embryology, biomechanical engineering, molecular biodynamics, anatomy, anatomopathology, Yoga, Chiropractic, Feldenkrais, Pilates, Neuromuscular Therapy, Osteopathy, and biotensegrity will gather in London to explore the inner cosmos of human matter underpinned by the biotensegrity model.
Participants on the course will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their vision with this panel of internationally respected authorities.
We have taken great care to ensure the right mix of dissection investigation, educational presentations, and informative talks by pioneers and leaders in the fields of anatomy, medicine, movement, and manual therapies for the Human Anatomy Dissection Seminar.
The Thiel embalming method used in this dissection course is a unique and advanced technique that has revolutionised the field of cadaver preservation. It involves the use of a special embalming solution that allows for the preservation of cadaver tissue in a more natural state, which facilitates better dissection outcomes. The soft-fixed cadavers used in this course are an excellent learning tool, providing a more realistic experience than traditional embalming methods.
Biotensegrity, the main theme of the course, is an emerging paradigm in the field of anatomy that emphasises the importance of the interconnectedness and continuity of the human body. This holistic approach to understanding the human form recognises that every part of the body is intricately linked and interdependent, and that our movement and posture are the result of the interplay between various structures and systems in the body.
The course’s special focus on Embryological Origins is particularly interesting, as it explores how the soft tissue’s stiffness or softness changes throughout our lives. This knowledge can have significant implications for understanding the development of various musculoskeletal disorders and injuries and how they may be treated or prevented.
Through the lens of BioTensegrity architecture, participants in this course will gain a deeper appreciation of how movement and form are interrelated from conception and throughout life. They will learn about the complex interactions between the body’s various systems, including the musculoskeletal, nervous, and fascial systems, and how they work together to create a resilient and adaptable structure.
This course is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in anatomy, movement, and manual therapies to deepen their understanding and expand their knowledge in this fascinating field.

The Biotensegrity Focused Full Body Dissection Course is a highly specialised educational opportunity that is open to anyone with a keen interest and some knowledge of human anatomy. It is an excellent opportunity for students, healthcare professionals, manual therapists, neuromuscular therapists, movement specialists and researchers to deepen their understanding of the human body’s complexity and interconnectivity.
This rare and unique three day dissection course will involve the use of soft fixed cadavers using the Thiel embalming method. Our cadavers now exhibit a greater degree of flexibility and true colour retention compared to that of traditional formalin-fixed cadavers.
Each day will involve a short presentation before moving into the dissection room where under the guidance of clinical anatomist John Sharkey and a team of experienced dissectors you will dissect a specific area. There will be plenty of time for questions and personal enquiry.
This is a rare opportunity to explore the human form and our team of experienced tutors will do all we can to support you and make this a unique educational experience. We also hope to have an opportunity to investigate areas of participant’s own interest.
BioTensegrity- Genetics, Kinetics and Synergetics.
This three-day course will involve short presentations from John Sharkey and Joanne Avison. Following the short presentations learners will immediately begin the dissection having familiarised themselves with the local anatomy and topography.
Biotensegrity will be our main theme in the course providing the foundation for our understanding of the continuity of the human form.
A special focus will be around the subject of Embryological Origins; on a scale of softness to stiffness (of soft tissue) throughout our lives. Considering that we live and develop between conception and elderhood, as a tensioned network that relies on BioTensegrity organisation to grow and change and emerge differently, at any point in time; over time…. in a continuum.
Explore how movement and form, in BioTensegrity architecture, are exquisitely interrelated from conception and throughout life.
Expand your perception of our self-assembly and how humans as the architects become or respond to our loading history?
Question how does appropriate stiffness relate to tensional integrity and elasticity in motion; from the cradle to the grave?
Witness the tensional nature of the body while we discuss how we grow what we are looking at in the dissection; such as the heart, the limbs and viscera.
This Biotensegrity Focused Full Body Dissection Course runs at the School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy at King’s College, London on the following dates and times in 2022:
Thursday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
June 15th, 2023
For this portion of the course the class will move/rotate around the lab approximately every 30 minutes. For those wishing to carry out dissection with a special focus on a topic of their own interest B.I.G Leaders, will attend the other tables and facilitate your interest.
Please note we do not have an official morning break, however, anyone wishing to leave the DR for a coffee or light snack may of course do so. Please listen to your body, hydrate and ensure you have plenty of energy.
Please note the class also has use of facilities to leave bags / drinks throughout the day, or to write up notes or take a break from the laboratory should you want to. No food or drink is allowed in the Laboratory at any time. No photography is permitted inside the Laboratory apart from the official course photographer.

Practical – This session provides the opportunity to investigate your specific area of anatomical interest under the supervision of our team members and presenters. Participants may move around the tables and invite others to see and discuss the revealed anatomy from both the classical and biotensegrity viewpoints, bringing the morning lecture into practice. Each of the presenters and the Biotensegrity team, will be available to discuss and answer questions you may have as you work at the dissection table.
Please note we do not have an official morning break, however, anyone wishing to leave the DR for a coffee or light snack/toilet may of course do so. Please listen to your body, hydrate and ensure you have plenty of energy.

Due to the nature of dissection courses whereby many items, including cadavers, must be booked and paid for at least six months ahead of the scheduled course date, the refund policy is as follows:.
Where written notice of non-participation is received, fees will be refunded on the following scale:
Refunds cannot be considered in any circumstances less than twelve weeks before the course start date. If you must drop out of a course due to illness (or other reason), remaining course fees must be paid in full. If students face any unforeseen circumstances which have a negative impact on their ability to pay fees due, they should contact the NTC office of administration as soon as possible.
In some instances refunds will have the the payment processing company’s transaction fee deducted from any amount due. This occurs when the payment processor will not refund the transaction fee to NTC. In instances where the payment processor do refund the transaction fee to NTC this will also be refunded.
Course registrations completed online within the EU are subject to the Consumer Rights Directive and you have the right to cancel your booking for any reason within 14 days. If a cancellation notice is received within the required time period, the National Training Centre are obliged to refund your payment in full within 14 days of receiving such notice of cancellation.
