NTC is a purpose built educational facility comprising modern, bright lecture rooms with audiovisual and multi media equipment, a fully equipped resistance training gymnasium, group fitness studio, library, fully staffed office of administration and changing rooms. Students are welcome to come and use the NTC for their own study and practice purposes (specific to their course) outside of their class times at no additional cost.

John Sharkey

John Sharkey (founding Director) is an international educator, author and authority in the areas of Clinical Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, human movement and the manual treatment of chronic pain using European Neuromuscular Therapy. He is recognised as one of the worlds leading authorities on fascia and Biotensegrity. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT), International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine and other professional journals.

About Us - Fidelma Conlon

Fidelma Conlon (Director) has over 25 years experience within the health fitness industry and has completed a number of professional qualifications over the years and holds a MSc in Exercise & Nutrition Science from the University of Liverpool. Both Fidelma and John were instrumental in developing and writing the european standards for fitness and personal training qualification with the European Health Fitness Association (now Europe Active) over a number of years which led to the agreed minimum EQF standards that exist within the health fitness industry.

Alp Ertung

Alp Ertung

Alp Ertung is a Certified Fascial Manipulation®Specialist, Fascial Manipulation® Teacher and Neuromuscular Therapist, H.Dip.

Alp has been practicing as a manual therapist and movement professional since 2011, with a primary focus on complex chronic myofascial pain and dysfunction. He completed his international certification and diploma programs in the United States, Ireland and Italy. Throughout his career, Alp has devoted most of his education to fascia science in order to better understand and interpret the functional integration of the human body.

In addition to his extensive training in soft tissue manual therapy approaches, he has participated in international fascial anatomy dissection workshops, fascia research summer schools and multiple International Fascia Research Congresses.

Alp was officially introduced to the Fascial Manipulation® Stecco Method in 2015, shortly after graduating from NTC as a neuromuscular therapist with a higher diploma. He completed his Fascial Manipulation® Level 1 course at NTC with Dr. Antonio Stecco in 2017 and went on to complete all subsequent levels with him.

After successfully passing his certification exam in 2021, upon the kind request of Dr. Carla Stecco and Dr. Antonio Stecco, he began his teacher training. He assisted Dr. Antonio Stecco in courses held in Padova, Italy until 2023, after which he became a Fascial Manipulation® Teacher.

Alp is now based in Vancouver, where he practices Fascial Manipulation® across multiple physiotherapy clinics and teaches the method internationally.

She recognises the importance of holistic approaches to wellness and the impact it can have on an individual’s physical and mental well-being. Meet Brighid, a passionate and enthusiastic fitness instructor who possesses a wealth of knowledge in the field of health and fitness. She strongly believes in practicing what she preaches, and that’s evident in her healthy and active lifestyle.

Brighid’s passion for running is palpable, and she’s a regular participant in the BHAA (Business Houses Athletic Association) races. Not only does she enjoy running as a recreational activity, but she also uses it as a means to maintain her fitness levels and challenge herself both physically and mentally.

Apart from her love for running, Brighid is a certified Pilates instructor and conducts her own Sports Pilates Classes at LesiureWorld. Her expertise in Pilates has helped her clients improve their flexibility, core strength, and balance, ultimately leading to better overall fitness. Her classes are tailored to suit the individual needs of her clients, and she provides personalised attention to ensure they achieve their fitness goals.

Brighid is also a seasoned Aqua Aerobics instructor and conducts regular classes. Her Aqua Aerobics classes are a fun and effective way to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and endurance. She combines a variety of exercises to make the classes both enjoyable and challenging.

Conor is a qualified Neuromuscular Therapist and operates a successful clinical practice. Conor works with a diverse range of chronic pain clients on a one-to-one basis in addition to providing professional services to a number of local sporting teams. Conor is also a qualified Personal Trainer and has worked in the fitness and leisure industry for over 10 years. His knowledge of bodywork and movement therapy ensures he has the skillset to help his clients move better and provide effective treatment protocols to improve their quality of living.

Conor has qualifications in Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling, Myofascial Cupping, Sports Taping and Strapping and is currently completing the Higher Diploma in Neuromuscular Therapy at the NTC where he continues to learn from recognised experts in fascia science.

Craig’s primary focus as a tutor is on Resistance Training, Fitness Assessment, and Exercise Principles. Over the years, Christopher has become an expert in his field, and his area of speciality in myofascial triggerpoint dry needling has become a sought-after technique by many. Dr. Antonio Stecco

Dr. Antonio Stecco

Dr. Antonio Stecco, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Instructor at Rusk Rehabilitation, New York University, and a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist. In addition to these roles, Dr. Stecco is the President of the Fascial Manipulation Association and a member of the International Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ISPRM).

Dr. Stecco’s primary scientific focus is on the human fasciae, and he examines this tissue from macroscopic, histological, and physio-pathological perspectives. His work has involved over 100 cadaver dissections for research purposes. Since 2007, Dr. Stecco has organised and personally led theoretical-practical courses on the Fascial Manipulation®/STECCO® method on every continent worldwide.

With over 40 published papers on fascia, Dr. Stecco is a prolific author in this field. He has also co-authored three books and contributed chapters to several international books published by Elsevier.

Dr. Carolyn McMakin

Dr. Carolyn McMakin

In 1996, McMakin began using frequencies from a list created in the 1920s to treat her patients. After testing the frequencies and treatment protocols to ensure their reproducibility, she presented her results at the American Back Society national meeting and published her first fifty cases of neck pain in August 1998.

A year later, McMakin discovered a frequency treatment protocol that could alleviate the full body pain of fibromyalgia associated with spine trauma in just sixty minutes. This breakthrough led her to continue presenting cases and teaching seminars around the world since 1999. Today, physicians and practitioners worldwide use her protocols to help their patients.

McMakin has also authored two books, including “Frequency Specific Microcurrent in Pain Management,” published by Elsevier in 2010, and “The Resonance Effect,” also published by Elsevier, in 2017. In addition to treating patients and publishing articles, she continues to teach courses on Frequency Specific Microcurrent therapy globally and maintains a part-time practice in Troutdale, Oregon.

Marc Ellis, D.C. MS, NMT, DACNB, FACFN, FABBIR

Marc Ellis is the founder of Georgia Chiropractic Neurology Center located in Marietta, Georgia. He possesses a rare combination of healing skills that reflect an inborn talent to restore the human body. His ongoing work in the field of chiropractic neurology, coupled with years of experience in neuromuscular therapy and martial arts, enable him to address complex conditions with a multi-faceted approach. Treating the underlying connective tissue has yielded dramatic results in chronic cases.

Before attending chiropractic school at Life University, Dr. Ellis became a certified neuromuscular therapist. He obtained a Master’s degree in clinical neuroscience from Parker University in 2020 and has spent countless hours studying human biomechanics, nutrition, homeopathy, functional medicine and kinesiology. His passion since chiropractic school has been functional neurology, in which he has completed thousands of hours of postdoctoral studies and graduated as the Valedictorian of the Clinical Neuroscience program from Carrick Institute in 2004. Dr. Ellis obtained diplomate status with the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and he is a fellow of both the American College of Functional Neurology and of the American Board of Brain Injury and Rehabilitation. He has worked closely with Professor Frederick Carrick as his first assistant and is an assistant professor for the Carrick Institute of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Peter Friedl

Peter Friedl, M.D., Ph.D., professor in Genitourinary Medical Oncology, has received the 13th annual City of Florence Prize in Molecular Sciences, one of Italy’s top scientific awards, for his work in imaging and cancer growth, metastasis and therapy response.

“Dr. Friedl’s accomplishments are internationally known, and this prestigious award only confirms the significance of his work,” says Ethan Dmitrovsky, M.D., provost and executive vice president.

The City of Florence prize recognizes advancements in key technical developments providing novel insight into biomedical processes. Friedl’s work with advanced microscopy garnered the attention of the University of Florence’s Center for Magnetic Resonance, which sponsors the award. A statement from the center noted that Friedl has developed a “novel method to obtain 3D images of living tissue, making them fluorescent rays with low energy.”

The City of Florence prize was founded by the Center for Magnetic Resonance, the Italian Chemical Society, the Sacconi Foundation, the Ente Cassa di Firenze and Banca CR Firenze.

Dr. Robert Schleip

Dr. Robert Schleip

Robert Schleip, born in Göppingen in 1954, is a human biologist and psychologist renowned for his expertise in fascia research. He obtained his degree in psychology from the University of Heidelberg in 1980, and subsequently trained as a Certified-Advanced-Rolfer from 1977-1983, and as a Feldenkrais teacher from 1984-1987.

In 2006, Schleip earned his doctorate in human biology from the University of Ulm. His doctoral thesis on active fascial contractility received the prestigious Vladimir Janda Prize for Musculoskeletal Medicine.

As the co-initiator of the first International Fascia Congress held at Harvard Medical School in Boston in 2007, Schleip played a key role in the emergence of modern fascia research. He has been a member of the scientific committee for all subsequent congresses in the series.

Since 2008, Schleip has served as Director of the Fascia Research Group, Division of Neurophysiology at the University of Ulm. He also organized the “CONNECT – Connective Tissues in Sports Medicine” event in 2013 and 2017, alongside sports physician Prof. Jürgen Steinacker.

Schleip is an Executive Research Director of the European Rolfing Association, Vice President of the Ida P. Rolf Research Foundation, and Board Member of the Fascia Research Society. He is a highly sought-after lecturer, teaching in physiotherapy, orthopedics, and training science. Schleip is also an author and publisher of specialist publications on the subject of “Fascia,” and a frequent presence in the media on this subject.

Dr. Wilbour Kelsick

DR. WILBOUR KELSICK specialises in enhancing elite athletic performance and rehabilitating sports injuries using applied functional anatomy.

Dr. Kelsick completed his BSc. in Kinesiology at SFU and his D.C. at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is an esteemed Fellow and Vice President of the College of Chiropractic Sport Sciences in Canada and a Fellow of the College of Chiropractic Rehabilitative Sciences in Canada. He is also a faculty member in the Department of Graduate Studies at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.

With his vast experience, Dr. Kelsick has authored and published several articles, contributed as an author for a medical text, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, a prestigious peer-reviewed journal.

Dr. Kelsick holds post-graduate specialties in the field of sports injuries and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Eileen holds an Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork, and a Master’s degree in Workplace Health and Wellbeing. She delivers Pilates classes across a variety of settings, including community groups, corporate environments, and private one-to-one sessions.

With a background and a degree in business and extensive experience in sales and marketing, Eileen brings a unique perspective to the fitness industry. She recognises the importance of marketing knowledge for Pilates instructors, understanding that strong communication and promotional skills are essential for building successful client relationships and sustainable practices.

Francesco Pacenza, BSc

Francesco Pacenza, BSc

Francesco Pacenza is a highly accomplished physiotherapist who has an impressive educational background. He earned a Bachelor of Science cum laude in Physiotherapy from the University of Udine and was awarded a scholarship to attend the fourth year of the program at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia.

Francesco’s interest in fascial manipulation began in 2009 when he started studying and practicing this technique. He completed the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level courses, each with different instructors, to improve his clinical and manual skills. Additionally, he has attended several advanced workshops at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level, as well as annual conferences on Fascial Manipulation from 2011-2016. He became a Teacher Assistant in 2013 and has since been actively involved in introducing this technique to other professionals.

Francesco’s expertise in fascial manipulation has also led him to work with several international teachers, holding workshops on the topic in various settings. Notably, he presented at the Connective Tissues in Sports Medicine Conference in March 2013 at Ulm University in Dubai and at the Interdisciplinary World Congress on Low Back and Pelvic Girdle Pain in October 2013 in Riyadh.

In 2015, Francesco completed an advanced course of muscle-fascial anatomical dissections with Prof. Carla Stecco at Padua University, earning his first Certificate in the process. Furthermore, in 2016, he completed the Certificate of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy by Manual Concepts and Curtin University in Perth, Australia.

Gráinne O'Driscoll

Gráinne O'Driscoll

Gráinne is a dedicated fitness professional who has been actively involved in the industry since the mid-90s when she trained with NTC and qualified as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Although her career took a detour, her passion for exercise and fitness never waned. In 2014, she returned to NTC to renew her qualifications and, motivated by her desire to deepen her knowledge, subsequently completed the Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork.

Driven to excel in her field, Gráinne continued her education with BASI, a leading provider of Pilates teacher training, where she attended various workshops and pursued further education under the tutelage of world-renowned instructors such as Rael Isacowitz, Susan Church, Michael King, and Anula Maiberg. Gráinne’s commitment to education and continuous learning has enabled her to remain at the forefront of the fitness industry, keeping her skills and knowledge current and relevant.

Jan’s extensive knowledge and experience have led her to teach workshops on a diverse range of topics since 1993. These workshops include Therapeutic Massage, Self-care for the Carer, Body Realignment, Fascial Unwinding, Energy Awareness, and Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork therapy. As the founder of the British Fascia Symposium, Jan has been instrumental in bringing together experts from around the world to discuss the latest research and techniques in the field of fascia therapy.

Jan’s expertise in the field of scar and adhesion therapy led her to co-edit and co-author Scars, Adhesions and the Biotensegral Body, a textbook for hands-on practitioners. Joanne Avison is a certified Structural Integration practitioner (IASI) and a graduate of Tom Myer’s KMI school (1999-2001), with a wealth of experience in both movement and manual therapy. Joanne is a certified teacher of Kinesis and teaches applied structural anatomy for movement and manual practitioners in various fields internationally.

Joanne is the Director of the Art of Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training in London, UK, and a Senior Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) and Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

As a member of the BioTensegrity Interest Group (B.I.G.), Joanne is deeply interested in the application of BioTensegrity principles to the understanding of the human blueprint and natural biomotional organisation. She is dedicated to making this emerging context for human movement more accessible and understandable through her writing and workshops.

Joanne is also a CMED Graduate (2004) and has extensively studied human development, with a particular focus on soft tissue and the connections between archetypal behavior and physiology. Her rigorous studies include Human Dissection and movement research in Fascial Fitness with Robert Schleip.

He is a graduate of the University of Dundee, University of Liverpool, and University of Chester, completing both undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Exercise Physiology and Clinical Anatomy. He also holds a post-graduate certificate in education.

John is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Life Sciences at the University of Chester/NTC, Dublin. Additionally, he serves as the programme leader for the highly acclaimed series of Human Anatomy Dissection programmes , delivered past, present and future at King’s College London (England), The University of Dundee (Scotland), The Ohio State University (USA), Trecchi Human Academy (Italy) and The University of Witwatersrand School of Anatomical Sciences (South Africa). These courses are delivered teaching the geometry of anatomy and movement from the unique perspective of Biotensegrity-Anatomy for the 21st Century. His presentations are informative, entertaining, respectful, and insightful.

John is a proponent of the “Biotensegrity-Anatomy for the 21st century” model, which incorporates the groundbreaking work of his mentor, Dr. Stephen Levin MD. John is recognised as one of the foremost experts in the world on fascia and Biotensegrity. He specialises in teaching European Neuromuscular Therapy using living anatomy to address chronic pain conditions. Furthermore, he serves on the editorial board of professional journals such as the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT) and the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine.

Karen Kirkness obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences at Hull York Medical School. She also holds two master’s degrees – one in Fine Art and the other in Human Anatomy from the University of Edinburgh Biomedical Sciences. Karen is the author of Spiral Bound: Integrated Anatomy for Yoga, which is a multidisciplinary book that explores the anatomical basis of spirality in human movement.

Karen is a Senior Yoga Teacher, E-RYT 500, and YACEP, accredited with the Yoga Alliance Professionals. She founded Meadowlark Yoga, a social enterprise studio, in 2008. Karen has embraced an inter-lineage approach to yoga that is focused on healing, facilitating a constraints-led journey towards self-care and personal growth for all levels of practitioners.

Karen is an active participant in both art and science festivals where she presents her work in creative ways. She is a member of the Anatomical Society and the International Symposium of Clinical and Applied Anatomists (ISCAA).

Karen currently resides in the Scottish Borders with her husband Simon and their two young children.

Kevin graduated from St. Mary’s University College with a Bachelor of Education degree and has spent the last 18 years working as a Primary School teacher.

In 2013, he embarked on a different path, pursuing his interest in Health & Fitness, by gaining a qualification in Sports Science and Conditioning from the Open University.

Having used Pilates in his own sporting endeavours to aid performance, Kevin furthered his Pilates knowledge and experience by qualifying from the NTC in 2016 with the Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork.

Since then, he has developed his passion of using Pilates for rehabilitation and performance by working with elite G.A.A. clubs as well as Inter County teams.

Kevin has also created a school specific digital well-being programme for the Primary and Post-Primary school sector; ‘Primary Pilates & Mindfulness’.

He is a tutor on the Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork in NTC.

Kevin is a highly experienced Neuromuscular Therapist (NMT) and a proud member of the Association of Neuromuscular and Massage Therapists (ANMT). His years of study and practical experience have given him a deep understanding of the integration of NMT within the wider health, fitness, and athletic performance fields. Kevin has worked with many high-profile clients and organisations, including Monaghan United F.C. and Monaghan and Cavan GAA, where he offered sports first aid, pain and injury prevention strategies, and event massage.

With a passion for helping others and a background in emergency first aid, Kevin opened Back in Action, a pain and injury clinic in 2005. Since then, he has become a key member of the National Training Centre’s educational committee, contributing to the development and delivery of the Higher Diploma in Neuromuscular Therapy (HDipNMT). As the course leader, he has played an instrumental role in creating a comprehensive curriculum and implementing new teaching methods to improve the learning experience for students.

Kevin is currently pursuing his MSc in Neuromuscular Therapy, and he has completed fresh frozen cadaver dissections in the Department of Anatomy at Kings College London. As part of an international team of lecturers, he has also helped to bring advanced qualifications in NMT to groups of physiotherapists, osteopaths, and other healthcare providers in Warsaw, Poland, and Kings College London.

In addition to his work in NMT, Kevin also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications in Creative Multimedia. He has leveraged his expertise to implement a streaming video resource for HDipNMT students, which is currently being expanded to include a range of courses offered by the National Training Centre. These videos feature world-renowned authorities and were filmed during actual classes and in a specialised studio at the National Training Centre. Thanks to Kevin’s efforts, students now have access to a wealth of knowledge and insights from experts in the field, helping them to develop their skills and achieve their goals.

Kim Pittis, LCSP (PHYS), MT, is the director and lead instructor of FSM Sports, a specialised certification program focused on Frequency Specific Microcurrent applications in sports and physical medicine.

With over 20 years of experience in sports therapy, Kim was the first practitioner to become a Certified Advanced Practitioner and Core Practicum Instructor of FSM in Canada before relocating to California. She maintains a private practice in the Bay Area, where she treats professional, Olympic, and amateur athletes using an integrated approach that combines osteopathic-based assessments with myofascial manual therapies.

Since qualifying, Nora has been delivering Pilates classes in her local community to individuals of all ages and fitness levels under the banner Pilates with Nora. She is passionate about helping others stay active and strong, or reconnect with movement and fitness after a break.

In addition to her community work, Nora is a tutor on the Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork programme at NTC, where she supports and mentors the next generation of Pilates instructors.

Professor Pilat is a physiotherapist and specialist in manual therapy. Creator of the Myofascial Induction approach. Lecturer on postgraduate and master degree programs in numerous universities in Spain and other European countries, as well as in Central and South America.

Author of the book Myofascial Induction, and co-author of books and papers on manual therapy published in Britain, Spain, Italy and the USA. Director of the Tupimek School of Myofascial Therapies, Madrid, Spain. Dr Andrzej Pilat has undertaken pioneering research on fascial anatomy using non-embalmed cadaver dissections and has used his expertise as a photographer to capture the inner beauty of the body in pictures.

Qualified in nine Les Mills programs, Rachel began tutoring in 2009 and has a passion for developing top-tier instructors and making a meaningful impact in the industry.

Rebecca is a chartered physiotherapist and neuromuscular therapist, involved in the health and leisure industry since 2009. She started out as a lifeguard, swimming instructor, personal trainer, and fitness instructor in her local leisure centre. Her dedication to sports and fitness led her to hold a place on the Irish Elite Boxing Squad. Rebecca managed a gym and spa onboard Disney Cruiseline, travelling international waters across various continents.

She completed the higher diploma in neuromuscular therapy at the NTC in 2014 and obtained her teaching qualification from Maynooth University in 2016, before continuing on to a physiotherapy BSc (Hons) in the University of Limerick. Rebecca ran a successful private clinic for 10 years in Co. Kildare, including pitch-side work with many sports teams and is the main sponsor of her local GAA club’s senior team. She has a passion for anatomy and completed several human anatomy dissection courses/internships in Kings’ College London, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh, and von Hagens’ Plastination. She has worked with world-renowned anatomists and surgeons such as Dr. Vladimir Chereminskiy, Dr. Gunther von Hagens, Prof. Richard Tunstall, Dr. Jean Claude Guimberteau, Dr. Antonio Stecco, Dr. Niall Galloway, Dr. Abduelmenem Alashkham, Dr. Jaap van der Wal and John Sharkey.

Rebecca is currently undertaking a PhD in anatomy and is working as the personal assistant and physiotherapist of Dr. Gunther von Hagens in Guben, Germany.

Sabine is also the owner of a Neuromuscular and Sports Therapy Clinic where she provides her clients with personalised treatments that cater to their specific needs.

In addition, Sabine holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science and Physical Education. She has worked as a professional coach in various sports, ranging from grassroots level to professional sports performance, for several years. Her expertise lies in physical coaching for sports-specific strength and movement, which helps athletes achieve their optimal potential. She has worked with a diverse range of clients, including athletes at all levels, sports teams, and fitness enthusiasts.

Sabine is a strong believer in the value of continuous education, and since moving to Ireland in 1995, she has continually pursued professional education in various disciplines. This has allowed her to stay up to date with the latest advancements in her field and incorporate new techniques and practices into her treatments.

In her work, Sabine is passionate about promoting the important role and function of fascia, bio-tensegrity, and movement in medical and clinical applications, as well as their integral role in our overall health and wellbeing. Sinéad qualified from NTC in 2013 with the Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork and previously completed the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training.

Sinéad began working for herself in 2014. Through her business, SNC Pilates, she has been teaching group and private Pilates classes and corporate wellness sessions.

Since graduating from NTC, Sinéad has also received qualifications in Mat and Reformer Pilates and is a qualified Yoga instructor.

Val Keeley is the NTC’s Internal Quality Assurer (IQA).

Val has been involved in the fitness industry for three decades first as a club owner before developing her career as a tutor, assessor, IQA and an External Quality Assurer for leading awarding bodies.

She has been instrumental in developing course content and materials for fitness courses both in the UK, Reps India, Reps UAE, and Reps Ireland.
